We welcome you to contact Elite Smiles Dentistry at 904-201-4304 to schedule your appointment and for more information about digital X-rays in St. Augustine, Florida.
What is digital radiography and how it can help?
Digital X-rays have changed the way our dentists view and examine the mouth. Digital radiography makes the imaging process faster, more comfortable, and more convenient. Rather than requiring the use of toxic chemicals and a time-consuming development process, our dentists can now use digital X-rays to capture high-quality images of your teeth and the supporting structures in just a few seconds.
Digital X-rays use a digital sensor to capture images of the teeth. These images are then projected onto a nearby computer monitor to be viewed instantly, allowing our dentists to make an efficient and highly accurate diagnosis. Digital X-rays are used to identify and treat a number of dental problems, including:
- Tooth decay
- Developmental abnormalities
- Incorrect root positioning
- Cysts and abscesses
- Fractures in the teeth or in dental fillings
- Tumors
- Bone loss
- Infection in the tooth nerves
Digital radiography is also used to plan and perform a variety of surgical procedures, including root canal treatment and implant placement surgery.
Are dental X-rays safe?
X-rays have a reputation of being somewhat unsafe, and many people have concerns about this. Here at Elite Smiles Dentistry, we are pleased to inform you that digital X-rays are very safe. Digital X-rays produce very little radiation – less radiation, in fact, than what you are exposed to in your normal day-to-day life and up to 90% less than traditional film X-rays. Additionally, each X-ray machine is checked regularly to ensure that it functions properly and is safe for use.
